Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth have announced that they won’t be participating in the upcoming Premier Badminton League. Srikanth proceeded to claim that he wants to focus on the International events with the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in sight.
Srikanth, who was a driving force for the Bangalore Raptors last year en route to their maiden title announced his decision through his twitter handle. He posted:
“It’s a tough road ahead. Need to go full throttle and fulfill the expectations that lie on me. Hence, I won’t be playing PBL this year to focus more on International events. Wish @blr_raptors all the very best and hope for a smashing season this year as well,”
The 26-year-old shuttler is currently enduring a rough patch this year where the pinnacle was his run in the India Open where he reached till the finals.
Saina Nehwal has also opted to skip the tournament in order to focus more on the International events.
The fifth edition of the Premier Badminton League is slated to take place from January 20 to February 9.
