In an interaction that has caught the attention of fans worldwide, Indian cricketer Shubman Gill had a light-hearted conversation with British singer Ed Sheeran. The interaction took place during Sheeran’s visit to India for the final leg of his ‘±=/x Tour’ (Mathematics) at Mahalaxmi Racecourse in Mumbai.

The conversation, which also included comedian Tanmay Bhat, was captured in a video shared by Sheeran on his YouTube channel. The trio was seen enjoying Indian delicacies at a restaurant in Mumbai.
During the conversation, Sheeran mentioned that he was going to have dinner with Shah Rukh Khan, the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), an Indian Premier League (IPL) team. Gill, who used to play for KKR, responded with a cheeky comment. He urged Sheeran to ask Shah Rukh Khan why he wasn’t retained by the team.
Gill’s comment was met with laughter from the group, adding a humorous twist to the conversation. This interaction has since gone viral, with fans eagerly awaiting Shah Rukh Khan’s response to Gill’s question.
For context, Shubman Gill was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders between 2018 and 2021. However, after four seasons with KKR, Gill wasn’t retained by the franchise. He was eventually acquired by the Gujarat Titans for an astounding Rs. 8 crore.
Bought for Rs 1.8 crore ahead of IPL 2018, Gill had risen to prominence with KKR in the very first season where he scored 203 runs in 13 matches at a strike-rate of 146.04. But later on, he drew flak for his poor conversion rate while his strike rate too came down overall.
“The kind of bond I have with the KKR franchise is something really special to me,” Gill had said in a short-film titled ‘Love, Faith and Beyond’. “Once you’re associated with a franchise you would want to carry on and play with them forever… And if I would be able to play in purple and gold, I would play forever,” he had added back then.
