Indian cricketing tycoons Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli have amassed over 100 million followers across all the social media platforms. Climbing up the ladder is Shreyas Iyer, who has cemented his place with the team and has shown tremendous potential when it comes to off the pitch affairs in social media.

The Delhi Capitals skipper was the core of the franchise’s Instagram posts over the course of the recently concluded IPL. Even after the culmination of the tournament, Iyer has made himself valid with quirky posts on his personal account, the most recent one forecasting the quarantine situation in Australia.

In a new high, Shreyas Iyer has become the first cricketer and apparently the first Indian sportsperson to be followed by Instagram’s official account. This is a feat that even the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni are yet to achieve.

The social media outlet, was, however, following Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma earlier.

Shreyas Iyer rise continues with Delhi Capitals’ maiden final outing

Delhi Capitals have never looked back ever since the appointment of Shreyas Iyer as captain in 2018. The 25-year-old was thrust into captaincy after Gautam Gambhir relinquished the role midway of the season.

Under Iyer’s reign, the side managed to qualify for the playoffs consecutively for the first time since 2008-2009. While they were bettered by Chennai Super Kings in the 2019 edition, they went one step further this year after making it into the finals for the very first time in 13 years.

Following the final, Iyer heaped praise on head coach Ricky Ponting and the rest of the players who helped the team finish second in the end.

“Ricky, the amount of freedom he gives us is outstanding. The way he motivates players is simply amazing. His team meetings and motivational speeches it quite incredible. The IPL always amazes you, it’s one of the toughest leagues to play.

I’m overwhelmed to be part of it, and I’m really proud of my boys, the way they have played to reach the final, it’s not easy. Winning the IPL would have been better, but we will see to it that we lift the trophy next year. I would like to thank our fans, and we’re thankful for all the support that has been showered on us throughout the season,” Iyer said

Shreyas Iyer also enjoyed his personal best campaign after breaching the 500-run mark for the first time in his 7-year IPL career.
