Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube recently expressed his faith in the batting prowess of Virat Kohli, despite the latter’s recent slump in form during the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Virat Kohli’s string of low scores in T20 WC
Kohli, who had a prolific run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, scoring over 700 runs while opening for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has managed to score only five runs in the first three games of the T20 World Cup. His scores read 1, 4, and 0 against Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA, respectively. Despite Kohli’s lack of contribution with the bat, India won all three games and secured their position in the Super 8 round.
The pitches in New York, where the matches are being held, have been challenging for batters of all teams. This has led to debates around whether the decision to ask Kohli to open is right. However, Dube, who himself turned around his poor batting form with a score of 31 not out against the USA, expressed no sign of worry over Kohli’s form in the ongoing tournament.
When asked about Kohli’s performance, Dube responded, “Who am I to talk about Kohli? If he hasn’t got runs in three games, he may well get three hundreds in the next three and there will be no more discussions. We all know his game and how he plays.” This statement reflects Dube’s confidence in Kohli’s ability to bounce back from his current form.
