Young Shefali Verma’s bright start continued with yet another fifty while Smriti Mandhana stayed unbeaten to inflict a 10-wicket loss on the West Indies Women at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the Indian women struck early. The hosts managed to construct a partnership of 34 runs in the middle overs for the third overs only to be sent back to the pavilion by Pooja Vartakar in the 12th over.
The spiralling continued as wickets fell at regular intervals before ultimately being restricted to 103/7 at the end of their 20 overs. Deepti Sharma accounted for four of the seven wickets claimed as she returned with the figures of 4-10.
The visitors made an easy work of the paltry target and managed to attain a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Shefali Verma scored a blistering knock of 69 off just 35 balls while Smriti Mandhana played the anchor with an unbeaten 30 off 28.
The third T20 between these two sides is slated to take place at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
