Indian table tennis ace Sharath Kamal has decided to drop out of the upcoming 2022 Table Tennis World Championships, referring to personal reasons for taking the decision and the Indian contingent at the c’ships will now be led by Gnanasekaran Sathiyan and Manika Batra.
Two-time CWG gold medallist G Sathiyan, currently ranked as world no 37, will be leading the men’s team, while Manika, another star paddler from the country who bagged two gold at the CWG 2018, will spearhead the female squad.
Aside from Sathiyan, the men’s team will feature Sanil Shetty, Harmeet Desai, Manush Shah and Manav Thakkar, while Sreeja Akula, Reeth Rishya, Diya Chitale and Swastika Ghosh will be under the leadership of Manika. The Indian contingent will be accompanied by S Raman and Anindita Chakraborty or Chris Adrian Pfeiffer (personal coach).
Sharath had earlier tested monumental success this year, securing three gold medals in men’s singles, mixed doubles and men’s team event as well as a silver in men’s doubles at the CWG 2022 earlier this this month in Birmingham.
The 2022 Table Tennis World Championships will be taking place from 30th September to 9th October at the Chengdu High-tech Sports Centre in Chengdu, China.
