Tabletennis ace Sharath Kamal lost to China’s Ma Long in Round 3 of Men’s Division in five sets. The veteran’s run comes to an end following an 11-7 11-8 13-11 11-4 11-4 defeat.
Ma Long raced away with the lead in the contest despite an aggressive intent by Sharath Kamal. The Chinese ace took the set by 11-7.
The 39-year-old made a stunning statement in the second set and ousted his opponent 11-8. The score was 3-3 at a time, but the Indian legend ran away with four consecutive points to make it 7-3. While Ma Long was able to close down the lead, he lost the set.
Sharath Kamal began Set 3 on a bright note, riding from the Set 2 winning confidence. He prodded ahead slightly with a 4-2 lead but the set was taken into a tie-breaker following intense action. The Chinese legend ended up taking the game 13-11.
Ma Long etched a 6-0 lead in the fourth set and won the set 11-4. He went on to seal the final set by the same margin to end Sharath Kamal’s run at the Tokyo Olympics.
