Shane Warne has strong words for Australia – and it’s exactly what they need!

Former Australian test cricketer Shane Warne says Australian cricket’s new buzzwords, make him ‘vomit’ and actions not words should be the focus as the team works to turn itself around. Shane Warne has termed those as ‘verbal diarrhoea’. The spin legend made his views known while commentating during the first One-Day International between Australia and South Africa on Sunday in Perth. Pictures had emerged of the Australian dressing room at the Perth Stadium plastered with buzzwords like ‘Elite Honesty’.

“Forget all the words, forget the verbal diarrhoea and all that sort of stuff,” Warne said while commentating for Fox Cricket during the first ODI against South Africa in Perth. “That’s just rubbish, that sort of stuff. Seriously, it makes you want to vomit.

“At the end of the day you’ve got to play cricket, it’s a simple game and it’s a performance-based game. You’ve got to perform on the field. All these words and everything, it’s all about actions and I think it’s all about basics. The captain and vice-captain lead the way and the rest come after you. You inspire, inspire from within with your performances and the way you perform on the field.

“None of this writing words, 200-page documents, just get out and play better.”

In attempting to explain the meaning of ‘elite honesty’ last week, coach Justin Langer said: “It’s the Australian way as I know it.

“You can lie to everyone else, but you can’t lie to yourself. So that’s elite honesty to yourself,” he added.

“And also the Aussie way as I know it is to look a bloke in the eye, look your sister or you mum in the eyes, and tell them the truth and be happy to get some truth back, so that’s elite honesty.”

This was Australia’s first home match since the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa in March. They suffered a heavy defeat as they got bowled out for 152 and the visitors cruised to victory by six-wickets in Perth. The second game of the three-match series takes place at Adelaide on Friday.
