Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has taken a hilarious dig at the Duckworth Lewis system (DLS) after India lost the first T20 vs Australia by a narrow margin of 4 runs.

India who won the toss chose to bowl first. After picking up early wickets, they failed to capitalize on the good start and let the likes of Maxwell and Stoinis take control. After 16.1 when Australia were at 153-3, rain came pouring down bringing the game to a halt.

When the rains stopped, the game was reduced to a 17 over contest meaning that Australia had only 5 more balls to face. With them ending their innings at 158, India had to chase a target of 174, once the scores were revised by the DLS method.

But India faltered right at the very end scoring 169 and falling short of the total by 4 runs. Having scored 11 runs more than their opponents when the normal scores were compared, Virender Sehwag took to twitter to make a hilarious statement about the DLS system.

The tweet from Sehwag read, “India scoring more than Australia yet losing. Australia ke score par laga GST bhaari pad gaya. But a good thrilling game to start the series.” Him considering the extra runs to be scored as GST made the tweet a funny one.

After losing this encounter, India will look to get back to winning ways when the 2nd T20 takes place on Friday.
