With 21 medals in their kitty already, India continue their fine form at the 14th Asian Shooting Championship in Qatar. And, on Monday, teen sensation, Saurabh Chaudhary, bagged another, silver to be precise, in the men’s 10m air pistol category, finishing second behind North Korea’s Kim Song Guk, while Foroughi Javed of Iran clinched the bronze at the Lusail Shooting Complex in Doha.
The Asian Games gold-medallist qualified for the finals along with Abhishek Verma, however, the latter finished fifth after scoring 181.5. Chaudhary, though, with a score of 244.5 missed out on the gold. Both of these players have already secured their Olympic quotas in earlier competitions.
Chaudhary started the day with a brilliant display, scoring 10 and above in a series, but his opposite number from North Korea was simply too good for anyone.
The other Indian shooters were in their top-form too with Shreya Agrawal and Dhanush Srikanth finishing first in the 10m air rifle mixed team junior competition. The duo beat their Chinese opponents 16-14 in the final after two difficult rounds of qualifying.
Overall, India currently stand third in the medals tally behind China and South Korea and with six Olympic quotas across all events from this prestigious championship, the Indian shooters are quite confident before boarding the flight to Tokyo next year.
