Satwik-Chirag advances to Semis after a one-sided affair in the Thailand Open


In a thrilling badminton showdown, the Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, popularly known as Satwik-Chirag, stormed into the semifinals of the 2024 Thailand Open Super 500.

Satwik-Chirag’s dominance in the quarterfinals

Facing Malaysia’s Junaidi Arif and Roy King Yap, Satwik and Chirag displayed exceptional form. They secured a commanding straight-game victory with scores of 21-7, 21-14 in just 38 minutes. Ranked third in the world, the Indian duo now gears up for the semifinals. Their next challenge awaits in the unseeded Korean pair of Ming Che Lu and Tang Kai Wei.

India’s women’s doubles pair, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponappa, also advanced to the semifinals. They fought hard against South Korea’s Lee Yu Lim and Shin Seung Chan, clinching a 21-15, 21-23, 21-19 victory in 76 minutes. Their next opponents are Thailand’s top-seeded pair, Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai.

Rising star Meiraba Maisnam, ranked 84th, faced a tough quarterfinal match. Unfortunately, he fell to the reigning world champion, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, in the men’s singles, losing 21-12, 21-5.

Satwik and Chirag’s stellar performance sets the stage for an exciting semifinal clash. As they aim for the title, Indian badminton fans eagerly await their next battle.
