India’s top doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty (Satwik-Chirag) have successfully advanced to the semifinals of the China Masters 2024. The sixth-seeded Indian duo defeated the second seeds, Anders Rasmussen and Kim Astrup of Denmark, in straight games with scores of 21-16, 21-19.
Satwik-Chirag’s dominance in the quarters
The Indian duo had a strong start in the first game of the bout. Satwik-Chirag clinched a dominating 21-16 win in the first game. While, in the second game, the Danish opponents tried to make a comeback, however, Satwik-Chirag won the game by 21-19.
With this win, the Indian pair booked a semi-final meeting with South Korea’s Jin Yong and Seo Seung Jae, who defeated the Japanese pair of Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi in the other quarter-final. The last 4 clashes will take place on Saturday (November 23).

Lakshya Sen Exits the Tournament
Unfortunately, Lakshya Sen was unable to progress further in the men’s singles event. The Indian shuttler was ousted in the quarterfinals by Anders Antonsen of Denmark, with scores of 18-21, 15-21. This marks an early exit for Lakshya in the tournament.
Other Indian Performances
- PV Sindhu, Anupama Upadhyaya, and Malvika Bansod were eliminated in the women’s singles.
- The mixed doubles pair of B Sumeeth Reddy and N Sikki Reddy handed a walkover to the Chinese top seeds.
- The women’s doubles duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost to the second-seeded Chinese pair.
Satwik-Chirag’s journey to the semifinals is a significant achievement, especially after their recent disappointment at the Paris Olympics. They will be looking to make a strong impression in the upcoming matches.
