Sathiyan Gnanasekaran is on a roll. The star paddler dominated the court on Wednesday when he was up against Ukraine’s Yevhen Pryschchepa in the final round of ITTF Czech International Open. Currently holding the 39th rank in the world, he beat Yevhen 4-0 and claimed the men’s singles title at the event.

Sathiyan was entirely in charge of the game from the first round. After the first round, the score stood at 11-0. In the following round. Yevhen managed to score 6 against Sathiyan’s 11. In the final round, India’s top seed beat him by 14-12.

Previously Sathiyan had clashed with Sweden’s Truls Moregardh in the semi-final round. Sathiyan had maintained a steady lead throughout the game until Truls withdrew from the game midway citing injury. Until then Sathiyan was leading 11-4,11-8 and 8-2. The third round did not come to a proper end due to Truls opting out.

Just a week back, Sathiyan paired up with his fellow paddler Manika Batra to compete in the mixed doubles at the World Table Tennis Tour Contender Budapest that took place on Friday. The pair registered a win at the event after defeating Nandor Ecseki and Dora Madarasz 11-9,9-11,12-10 and 11-6.

It was a glorious day for the pair considering the fact that both of them are not exactly seen working together. The first time the duo played a match together was at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. It is only the second time that they have paired up and it was worked wonderfully for both of them.

It is reported that they two may pair up for the mixed doubles event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. But fans of the athletes do not have to wait that long to see them play together again as the duo will be back on the court for the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games that are to take place next year.

The pair did not have it easy. They faced off against Manav Thakkar and Archana Kamath and beat them 3-0 in the pre-quarters. In the quaterfinals top seeds Barbora Balazova and Lubomir Oistej were waiting for them. Their advance to the semifinals was spectacular where they played Aleksandr Khanin and Daria Trigolos.
