Sarri slams team, says players don’t even know basics of his football

Yet another humiliating defeat incurred by Chelsea in last night’s 4-0 hammering at Bournemouth has manager Maurizio Sarri fuming once again, and this time, the Italian has gone on to say that his Chelsea players ‘don’t even know the basics’ of the style of football he requires them to play.

While Sarri did take the blame on himself, for the defeat, which was the second succesive one in the Premier League, he remained adamant about sticking to his present style of football, and admitted that much work is needed to be done. The former Napoli coach is known for adopting unorthodox training methods, which could explain why his side has been weak mentally.

“We had assumed that we learned a certain style of football, but the truth is we never did learn it and are paying the consequences,” Sarri told Sky Sport Italia.

The 60-year old Italian went on to note how his side were incohesive in all departments and ultimately questioned his ability to overall motivate the players.

“Every now and then this team reacts in a way I cannot decipher, so that creates some uncertainty,” he said.

“We haven’t even learned the most basic moves yet. We need to work on the basics, the primary foundations of my football, and only then will we try to change a few things,” Sarri added.
