Sarita Devi suffers painful loss and exits from Women’s World Boxing Championship

L Sarita Devi (60kg) saw her World Women’s Boxing Championships campaign come to an end after she was knocked out by Russia’s Natalia Shadrina in the round of 32 on Sunday.

The former champion after receiving a bye in the first round, bowed out, throwing away a solid start to lose 0-5.

The fourth seeded was in pursuit for her first gold medal at the World Championships since 2006. Sarita started the game in a bright fashion, taking full control of the game in the initial three minutes.

However, Shadrina showed her class by coming back strongly in the other rounds to surprise everyone.

Saweety Boora (75kg) and Jamuna Boro (54kg) are the only Indian’s still left in the fray as they advanced to the round of 16, winning their opening bouts.
