Sanju Samson, the talented wicketkeeper-batter, showcased his prowess in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 with a scintillating century for India D against India B in Anantapur. His 94-ball hundred signified his aggressive yet composed batting style, marking his 11th first-class century.
Sanju Samson’s fiery innings
Samson’s innings began with India D in a precarious position at 175/4. The platform was set by the top-order contributions from Devdutt Padikkal (50), KS Bharat (52), and Ricky Bhui (56). Samson, batting at number six, took charge and played a counter-attacking knock that not only stabilized the innings but also propelled the team to a formidable total.
Samson’s century was a blend of aggression and precision. He reached his hundred in just 94 balls, hitting 12 boundaries and three sixes. His ability to find gaps and clear the ropes with ease put the pressure back on the India B bowlers, which included notable names like Mukesh Kumar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Rahul Chahar, and Navdeep Saini.

Samson’s hundred was pivotal in ensuring that India D posted a competitive first-innings total of 349. His innings not only provided stability but also added momentum to the team’s batting effort. Despite a wobble in the middle order, Samson’s knock ensured that India D had a solid foundation upon which to build.
Looking ahead, Samson’s performance in the Duleep Trophy will boost his confidence as he prepares for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. His form in red-ball cricket will be crucial for Kerala, and consistent performances could pave the way for his inclusion in the national Test squad.
