India won the first gold medal at the ongoing Asian Para Games in Jakarta courtesy of javelin thrower Sandeep Chaudhary on Monday. Sandeep clinched the yellow metal with a best throw of 60.01m in the Men’s F42-44/61-64 category.
Sri Lanka’s Chaminda Sampath Hetti had to settle for a silver medal after clearing the 59.32 mark in his best effort. Meanwhile, the bronze medal went to Omidi Ali of Iran who had thrown the javelin at a distance of 58.97m.
India’s tryst with winning gold medals in the Asian Para Games didn’t end there as Raju Rakshitha and swimmer Jadhav Suyash Narayan climbed the top of the podium at T11 1500m event and S7 50m butterfly event respectively. Ramya Shanmugam and Radha Venkatesh would add further glory to the tricolor as they bagged the silver medals in women’s F46 javelin throw and women’s T12/13 1500m race respectively.
