In a remarkable display of power hitting, Samoan cricketer Darius Visser etched his name into the record books during the T20 World Cup qualifiers. Facing Vanuatu, Visser unleashed an onslaught, scoring an astonishing 39 runs in a single over. This amazing feat surpassed the previous record set by legendary Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh in 2007.
Visser’s onslaught breaks Yuvraj Singh’s record
Visser hammered six sixes off the unlucky bowler, Nalin Nipiko, who faced the wrath of Visser’s explosive batting at the T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific Region Qualifier in Apia. Not only did Visser break the record, but he also became the first Samoan cricketer to score a century in T20 Internationals (T20Is). His overall innings of 132 runs off 62 balls propelled Samoa to a 10-run victory over Vanuatu.
Visser’s feat eclipsed other notable players who had previously hit 36 runs in a single T20I over, including Kieron Pollard, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Nicholas Pooran.
Yuvraj Singh’s iconic six sixes off England’s Stuart Broad in the 2007 T20 World Cup remains etched in cricket history, but Visser’s 39-run blitz now stands as the new benchmark.

Visser cleared the ropes a staggering 14 times during his innings. He also peppered the boundary with five fours, showcasing his all-round attacking prowess. Powered by Visser’s heroics, Samoa posted a formidable total of 174 runs. Their bowlers defended this total, securing a crucial win in the East Asia-Pacific qualifying tournament.
