The Sports Authority of India (SAI) is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that the Olympic-bound shooters of the country are able to partake in the competitions prior to the main event and is now coming forward to pay for the contingent’s tour of Croatia, estimated to cost Rs 3 crore.
Earlier this week, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) had arranged mandatory vaccinations for the 15-member team that is scheduled to leave for Zagreb, the Croatian capital via a chartered flight on 11th May.
On reaching Zagreb, the Indian contingent will prepare for the upcoming European Championship which is scheduled to be hosted from 20th May 20 to 6th June and will travel to the Eastern city of Osijek for the same.
On the heels of the championship, the shooters will remain at Osijek to take part in the ISSF combined World Cup, slated to take place from 22nd June to 3rd July. Following the two events in Croatia, the Indian team will directly fly to Tokyo for the Olympics which is kicking off on 23rd July.
Alongside the 3 rifle and pistol shooters, the Indian team that will leave for Croatia will consist of nine coaches as well as four physiotherapists and two physical trainers, all of whom have received the vaccines along with athletes.
Apurvi, Elavenil, Anjum Moudgil, Tejaswini Sawant, Manu Bhaker, Yashaswini Singh Deswal and Rahi Sarnobat are the women shooters of the team, while Divyansh Sigh, Deepak Kumar, Sanjeev Rajput, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Saurabh Chaudhary and Abhishek Verma comprise the male counterpart.
The team will have the presence of two foreign coaches- Oleg Mikhailov and Pavel Smirnov alongside Deepali Deshpande, Manoj Kumar, Suma Shirur, and Ved Prakash Pilaniya, after Samaresh Jung, Jaspal Rana and Ronak Pandit decided to pull out from the tour of Croatia beforehand.
Sumit Arora, Zeinia Samar, Sumita Jain and Shloka Varvatkar will be the four-member physio team, with Akshay Bhapkar and Har Kaur joining as physical trainers.
