On Saturday, the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar filed a complaint at the Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch against unidentified people using his name, photo, and voice in fake advertisements on the internet to dupe people.
Sachin Tendulkar files complaint
The complaint filed by Sachin Tendulkar noted that his name, image, and voice have been fraudulently used online to dupe people. Mumbai Police’s Cyber Cell has registered a case under sections 420, 465, and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and initiated an investigation.
Tendulkar also took to his official Twitter handle to spread awareness regarding the scam and reiterated that his name, photo and voice are being used without his consent and to dupe people.
“Access to trustworthy products is essential. Use the platform’s reporting and blocking tools to keep our communities safe. Let’s be proactive in creating a safer online environment,” Tendulkar wrote.
Sachin Tendulkar had also released a statement through the management teams of Sachin Tendulkar Foundation (STF) to warn people against fraud.
The statement read, “We have noticed that there have been attempts to impersonate Mr. Sachin Tendulkar’s attributes in an unauthorized manner, for selling products and services not associated with him. These are being done with a deliberate and malicious intention of misleading gullible citizens to buy unauthorized products and services online.”
