The event was a poignant moment, as both Tendulkar and Kambli, who were once inseparable friends and students of Achrekar, came together to pay tribute to the man who played a pivotal role in shaping their illustrious careers. Achrekar, who passed away in January 2019, was honoured with the prestigious Dronacharya Award in 1990 and the Padma Shri in 2010 for his contributions to Indian cricket.

During the ceremony, Tendulkar and Kambli shared a warm embrace and exchanged pleasantries, reminiscing about their days under Achrekar’s tutelage. Tendulkar spoke fondly of Achrekar’s coaching methods, highlighting how the legendary coach instilled a solid temperament in his students, which helped them remain calm under pressure during matches. He also recalled Achrekar’s unique way of showing appreciation, often giving money to buy a vada pav after a good performance.

The reunion of Tendulkar and Kambli was a heartwarming moment for cricket fans worldwide, as it brought back memories of their historic 664-run partnership in school cricket and their contrasting yet remarkable journeys in international cricket. Other former cricketers and Achrekar’s pupils attended the event, including Paras Mambhrey, Pravin Amre, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Sanjay Bangar, and Samir Dighe.
