Sachin Gupta, Ridhi win recurve men’s and women’s titles at the National Archery Championships

Indian archery youngsters Sachin Gupta and Ridhi clinched the men’s and women’s recurve titles respectively at the 41st NTPC Senior National Archery Championships at the Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu on Wednesday.

Along with a mixed team gold with Bhajan Kaur, Sachin Gupta, who surprised veteran Indian archer Jayanta Talukdar in the pre-quarterfinal round with a 7-3 victory, outplayed Olympian Atanu Das 6-2 in the final to lift the men’s recurve championship.

Ridhi, on the other hand, clinched a remarkable 7-3 victory against defending champion Dipti Kumari in the women’s recurve title race in the final. The youngster, coming off of a mixed team silver win at the Asia Cup in Phuket, Thailand last week, shocked world no. 1 Deepika Kumari in the semis, defeating the Olympian 6-4.

Sachin and Bhajan Kaur, the Haryanvi pair won the mixed team gold against Jayanta Talukdar and Ankita Bhakat, defeating the experienced duo from Jharkhand via shoot-off (4-4, 19-17) in the final.

Ridhi and Bhajan both bagged their second gold in the tournament by grouping up with Avni and Tisha Punia in women’s team summit clash, as the Haryanvi girls thrashed the Jharkhand team of Ankita, Komalika Bari, Laxmi Hembrom and Sonali Bakhla 6-0.

Meanwhile, the Services trio of Pravin Jadhav, B. Dhiraj, Tarundeep Rai and Gurucharan Besra defeated Basant Kumar, Neeraj Chauhan, Chaman Singh and Priyank representing All India Police 4-4 (29-28) for the men’s team gold, along with setting a national record.

  • Men’s Individual: Sachin Gupta (Har) Atanu Das (PSPB) 6-2
  • Women’s Individual: Ridhi (Har) defeated Dipti Kumari (AIP) 7-3
  • Men’s Team: Services defeated AIP 4-4 (29-28)
  • Women’s Team: Haryana defeated Jharkhand 6-0
  • Mixed Team: Haryana defeated Jharkhand 4-4 (19-17)
