Amid the two positive tests that were detected in the CSK camp, the team has moved to a week-long quarantine. As a result, the fixture between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings will be rescheduled.
CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan confirmed that the players have indeed started their quarantine period and had written to the IPL regarding the same.
The CEO was one of the three people to have tested positive for the virus, but following the second round of tests, he was cleared. However, bowling coach Laksmipati Balaji and a bus cleaner’s test reported positive for the second time as well.
While no player from the CSK contingent has tested positive, they will have to serve the mandate seven-day quarantine, which leads to major questions regarding their fixtures during the phase.
“The IPL SOPs say if any member of the team is infected the rest of the group needs to isolate for seven days. So we have informed the IPL on Monday,” Viswanathan said.
This becomes the second IPL fixture to be postponed after yesterday’s match-up between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders was put on hold following an outbreak in the KKR camp.
The positive case in the CSK camp also puts a doubt on the availability of Delhi as a venue to play its remaining matches.
“Balaji’s positive report is certainly a cause of concern although the CSK players have tested negative. But normally, a lot of people start showing symptoms from the fifth or sixth day. There are discussions whether it is safe to go ahead with the next two matches in Delhi,”
“Balaji was in the dug-out and also before and after the match, he interacted with Mumbai Indians players which is natural,” the official added
The entire tournament is speculated to be put on hold for a few days following the end of tonight’s fixture between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad tonight.
