With the lockdown in full force, Rohit Sharma turned to Yuvraj Singh for a chat on Instagram after previously talking with Jasprit Bumrah. The big hitters discussed how the Indian dressing room has changed over the years since their debuts.
It was Rohit Sharma who posed the question to the all-rounder on the changes he found between the current crop of players and the ones that were around when he made his debut. Yuvraj claimed that the players back then were way more disciplined, he elaborated by saying:
“When I came into the team or when you (Rohit) came into the team, our seniors were very disciplined. Obviously there was no social media so there were no distractions,” said Yuvraj
“There was a certain behavior that we boys had to carry, how they talk to people, how they talk to media. Because they were the ambassadors of the game and India.”
“So that is what I had told you guys. After playing for India, you have to be more careful about your image. But I feel the third generation. There are only you two seniors, Virat and you, who are playing all the formats, rest of the guys are coming and going.
Yuvraj Singh went further by claiming that the infamous incident involving Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul would never have happened during those days.
Rohit Sharma responded by claiming that there are very few senior members now when compared to the time when he made his debut where he along with Piyush Chawla and Suresh Raina were the only newcomers.
“When I came into the team, there were so many seniors. I think I was the only youngster alongside Piyush Chawla and Suresh Raina. The atmosphere is light now. I keep talking to the youngsters, the five-six of them.
The Mumbai Indians’ skipper also stated that the media is too harsh on Rishabh Pant without taking note of his age, but he also added that scrutiny will always be there as long as you play for the Indian team.
I speak to Rishabh a lot. There was so much scrutiny on him and he got worked up. Media should also think before writing about him. But scrutiny will be there as long as you are playing for India.”
