BREAKING: Rohit Sharma ruled out of Test series against South Africa

Newly appointed vice-captain of the Indian Test team, Rohit Sharma will not be part of the three-match series against South Africa which is slated to start on Boxing Day. The 34-year-old will be replaced by India A skipper Priyank Panchal for the series. 

BREAKING: Rohit Sharma ruled out of Test series against South Africa

Panchal led the India A team in three unofficial Tests against South Africa A in the rainbow nation and returned good numbers. There is no decision as to who will be the vice-captain for the series in the absence of Rohit. The BCCI Tweeted

“Priyank Panchal replaces injured Rohit Sharma in India’s Test squad. Rohit sustained a left hamstring injury during his training session here in Mumbai yesterday. He has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa.”

The injury reportedly happened while Sharma was practicing at the Bandra-Kurla complex in Mumbai. He was rested for the home series against New Zealand as part of the workload management. The vice-captain suffered the injury while training with throwdown specialist Raghavendra

“Yes, Rohit got injured will practicing on Sunday. But it is too early to say whether he is ruled out or not. We will keep monitoring the situation. As of now, we have asked Priyank Panchal to report to Mumbai as we want to have someone ready as cover if Rohit is unfit for the Test series,” a source had said

Shami, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj.
