Team India have been taking on England in the second Test where they won the toss and opted to bat first. However, they had a good start with Rohit Sharma smashed a century whereas Ajinkya Rahane scored a fifty on Day 1 of the Test in Chennai. However, Rohit scored 161 off 231 with 18 fours and 2 sixes as well. Their effort helped the host to put up 300 on the board after the day’s game.
“We knew how the pitch was prepared,” Sharma told after the end of the day’s play. “We knew it was going to turn. We had a few good training sessions before the game and practice according to what we were expecting in the middle. We wanted to make sure we used our feet a lot more and made sure we sweep the ball. When you play on turning pitches, you have got to be proactive. You cannot be reactive. The preparation really helped.”
However, he didn’t feature in the first two Tests against Australia as he had sustained an injury during the Indian Premier League last year in the UAE. Later, he became match fit and replaced the opener, Mayank Agarwal, who faced a rough patch and eventually lost his place.
“When you play on turning pitches, you have got to be proactive. You can’t be reactive. So getting on top of the bowler. Making sure you are ahead of him was very very crucial. So little adjustments based on that. And understanding if it is turning, how much it is turning, whether it is bouncing, whether it is keeping low. Those were the things I was thinking about before making any shot-making decisions. Mentally before the game I was prepared for what I was facing once I get in. The preparation really helped in terms of getting out there and playing the shot I want to play,” he again shared.
Rohit Sharma again added how he prepared for the game. He said that he tried to use the feet more and made sure to sweep the ball while seeing the line they were bowling, especially, Moeen Ali. He even shared that there was a lil chance of getting lbw and he already saw the fielding placement which helped him to go for the big shots as well.
