Rohit Sharma became the first batsman in the history of the game to score five centuries in a single edition of World Cup. Sharma’s brilliant form in the 2019 world cup has seen him plunder 647 runs in eight innings including 5 centuries and one half century against Australia. He is just 26 runs shy from breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s world cup record of 673 runs which he scored in the 2003 world cup.

Rohit Sharma’s record fifth century in this world cup was his sixth overall in World Cups, which is the same as another world cup record belonging to Sachin Tendulkar. When India take on New Zealand on Tuesday, Sharma will first need 27 runs to become the highest run getter in a single edition of cricket world cup.

But what is more interesting is that Sachin Tendulkar took 44 innings to get to his 6 world cup centuries where as Rohit Sharma got there in 16 innings.

The Indian vice captain started his world cup campaign with an unbeaten 122 against the Proteas in a successful run-chase at Southampton and then followed it up with 57 ,140 ,1 , 18 , 102 , 104 and 103 to end the league stage with an average of 92.42.

He is only the fourth batsman after Sachin Tendulkar, Matthew Hayden, Shakib Al-Hasan to score more than 600 runs at a single world cup edition and thanks to David Warner’s century against South Africa on Saturday made him the fifth batsman to scale the 600 run-mark, taking his tally to 638 runs in World Cup 2019.
