With the third Test is going to take place in Sydney from Thursday, the place for Team India’s third pace bowler between T Natarajan and Navdeep Saini reached a conclusion after several speculations and rumours, as the latter received the chance as a replacement and he is all set to make his debut. However, not only him, opener Rohit Sharma and veteran Cheteshwar Pujara are also on the verge of creating records in the game.

After having won the first Test convincingly by 8 wickets, Australia were confident to register another win against India where the team didn’t have the service of their regular captain Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami. But, surprisingly, Team India bounced back quite well and secured a win as well as levelled the series by 1-1 as well in MCG and the third Test will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) from the 7th of January.

As far as Cheteshwar Pujara’s record is concerned, he needs 97 runs in Sydney to become the sixth-fastest Indian to Reach the 6000-runs Club. Currently, he has 5903 runs in 79 Tests (132 innings) with 18 centuries and 25 fifties. The other five Indians are – Sunil Gavaskar (117 innings), Virat Kohli (119), Sachin Tendulkar (120), Virender Sehwag (123) and Rahul Dravid (125).

However, not only this but Cheteshwar Pujara needs 215 runs to become the 5th Indian to reach the milestone of 1000 runs in Australia. He has an aggregate of 785 runs in 9 Tests which came at an average of 46.17 with 3 centuries in Australia.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, who will play again in Tests for the first time since 2019, needs 184 more runs to complete 1000 Test runs in overseas as well. He has scored 816 runs in 18 Tests (33 innings) in overseas so far. Notably, he has replaced out-of-form Mayank Agarwal in the squad and will open with young talent Shubman Gill.

“We are excited to have Rohit back, he is batting really well in the nets. Rohit will bat at the top of the order,” stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane has said about Rohit Sharma during the pre-match press conference.
