Rohit Dahiya, a promising Indian Greco-Roman wrestler, narrowly missed out on a bronze medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Tuesday. Competing in the 82kg category, Dahiya was the only Indian Greco-Roman wrestler to reach the bronze medal round. However, he lost to Uzbekistan’s top-ranked Mukhammadkodir Rasulov on points.
A tough day for Rohit Dahiya at Asian Wrestling Championships
Dahiya, who had represented India in the 2022 World U-20 Championships in Sofia, had earlier lost his quarterfinal bout to Japan’s Yoshida Taizo on points 7-2. Despite this setback, he qualified for the bronze medal round as Yoshida made it to the final.
The bout against Rasulov was a tough challenge for Dahiya. Rasulov, ranked No.1 in the tournament, proved to be a formidable opponent. Despite Dahiya’s best efforts, he lost the bout on points.
