As the cricketing world gears up for the T20 World Cup 2024, the Indian cricket team is setting off on its journey, led by the stalwarts of the game, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. These two players, who have been instrumental in shaping India’s cricketing narrative over the past decade, are part of the first batch of Indian cricketers leaving for New York.

Indian Team departure for T20 World Cup

The departure is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, with the players flying from Mumbai to Dubai at 10 PM, before continuing their journey to New York. This strategic move allows the team to acclimatize to the conditions and get in some valuable practice before the tournament commences.

Joining Kohli and Rohit in this initial batch are other key players like Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kuldeep Yadav. Each of these players brings a unique skill set to the table, making the Indian team a formidable opponent in the upcoming World Cup.

The second batch of players, including Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, Avesh Khan, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, will depart later. These players recently ended their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign, adding to their experience and readiness for the World Cup.

Interestingly, Hardik Pandya, the vice-captain of the Indian team for the T20 World Cup, is currently in London. After his team Mumbai Indians couldn’t make it through to the playoffs, Hardik trained in London for a few days. There’s a chance that he would link up with the national team from there.

Upon reaching New York, the Indian team will have a couple of days to get going before taking on Bangladesh in their warm-up match on Saturday, June 1. India’s first match in the World Cup is against Ireland in a Group A match on Wednesday, June 5.
