Former finance minister late Arun Jaitley’s son Rohan Jaitley has been appointed unopposed as the new president of Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). The 31-year-old will remain in the post till June 30, 2021. However, the elections for the rest of the posts (treasurer and director) will take place on November 5,6 and 8 and results will be out on November 9 as well.

Rohan Jaitley, who is a lawyer by profession had shared his papers for the post on the last day of nominations. It is noteworthy that, his father, late Arun Jaitley was also the president of DDCA between 1999 and 2013. However, Rohan was likely to be the only choice for the post at the DDCA after Sunil Kumar Goel, the only other candidate, had withdrawn his name for the president’s post.

Meanwhile, he had said that he would love to have a contest for that respectable post.

“I don’t mind a contest. It is good for the democratic process. The idea is to bring in good people at appropriate times to have checks and balances in place,” Rohan Jaitley had said PTI after filing his nomination papers for the post.

“Yes, I have filed my nomination today. I would like to work for the betterment of Delhi cricket and would love to have everyone on the same page. It’s good to come back and serve the association with an aim to take it where it should be,” he had further added.

Notably, ever since Rajat Sharma had resigned from the post nearly a year ago citing corruption and unprofessionalism in the association, there was no one to lead the DDCA. Even several office bearers have been suspended by the High Court and DDCA ombudsman at different times too. Amid this time, Rohan Jaitley’s appointment could bring back the old glory to it.

On the other hand, the cricket fandom has been enjoying the 2020 edition of Indian Premier League in Dubai. While the first half-half of the tournament has been done and dusted, the league will conclude on November 10.
