Rohan Bopanna, one of India’s most celebrated tennis players, is all set to make his debut in the sixth season of the Tennis Premier League (TPL). The tournament, which will take place in Mumbai this December, promises to be an exciting event, especially with Bopanna’s participation.

Rohan Bopanna’s Stellar Career

Bopanna, currently ranked world number 6 in men’s doubles, has had an illustrious career spanning nearly two decades on the ATP Tour. He has represented India in three Olympic Games, with his best result being a fourth-place finish at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Bopanna has also won two Grand Slam titles: the 2024 Australian Open in Men’s Doubles and the 2017 French Open in Mixed Doubles.

The Tennis Premier League

The Tennis Premier League, now in its sixth season, has been a significant platform for promoting tennis in India. The league features a unique 25-point format, where each match between two franchises consists of Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Mixed Doubles, and Men’s Doubles. Each category is worth 25 points, making a total of 100 points at stake per match. Teams will accumulate up to 500 points during the league phase, and the top four teams will advance to the semi-finals.

Bopanna expressed his enthusiasm about joining the TPL, stating, “I’m thrilled to become a part of the Tennis Premier League, especially with its innovative 25-point format. It’s a perfect way to wrap up the year. I believe that tournaments like the TPL, which are actively contributing to grassroots development, will inspire more young players.”

Bopanna’s participation in the TPL is expected to have a significant impact on Indian tennis. His presence will not only boost the league’s profile but also motivate other players. Kunal Thakkur, Co-Founder of the Tennis Premier League, remarked, “It is fantastic to have onboard with us the very dynamic Rohan Bopanna. His credentials and abilities are something we don’t need to touch upon for obvious reasons, and we are confident that his presence will not only give a boost to the sixth season of TPL but also motivate the other players that tad bit more, especially when there is a former World Number 1 on the court.”

As Bopanna prepares for his debut in the TPL, he will be competing alongside other notable players like Sumit Nagal, Hugo Gaston, and Elina Avanesyan. The league, which has enjoyed five successful seasons, is gearing up to enhance its excitement and intensity for this sixth season.
