Indian tennis has a reason to celebrate as Rohan Bopanna and Sumit Nagal have secured their spots for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Veteran player Rohan Bopanna, currently ranked World No. 4 in doubles, has made it to his third Olympics after 2012 and 2016. Bopanna’s consistent performance, including a Grand Slam win at the Australian Open and reaching the semi-finals at the French Open, has been instrumental in his qualification. He is expected to choose world No. 67 Sriram Balaji as his partner at the Paris Olympics.
On the other hand, Sumit Nagal, India’s top singles player, has qualified for his first Olympics. Nagal recently achieved his career-best ranking of 77. His journey to the top 100 started with a win at the Chennai Open earlier this year. His ATP Challenger title win at the Heilbronn Neckarcup in Germany further boosted his ranking.
Rohan Bopanna and Sumit Nagal’s qualification
The qualification of both players is based on their ATP rankings. The top 10 players in the doubles rankings and the top 56 eligible men’s singles players as per ATP rankings released on June 10 obtained quotas for their countries. However, each country can obtain a maximum of four quotas.
