Manchester United have tasted mixed success since they sacked their former boss Jose Mourinho. His successor, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, had a great honeymoon period but after the club management gave the Norwegian a three-year contract, United’s performance dipped again.

However, former Manchester United player Robin van Persie believes that Manchester United are just having a bad time.

“I think it’s the perfect match, it’s just they’re having a bad spell.”

Fans making it tough for Solskjaer

The Dutch international who scored 48 goals for the Red Devils from 2012 to 2015 was also apprehensive on the modern fans as they seldom give time to the managers for settling down.

“Back in the day it was normal for a manager to get time. Nowadays if you lose six games, you’re out. Is that the solution? Give someone time, especially if it’s a kid from the club.”

Robin was also critical of the double-faced nature of their fans. They were gaga over him when Manchester United ousted PSG in extra time of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 but everything was changed once he got the permanent deal.

“Everyone was screaming like, ‘Give the guy a permanent deal’. And then since that permanent deal the luck went away a little bit; they’ve been losing more games than they want to.”
