Young cricket talents Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, and Nitish Reddy have earned their maiden call-ups to the Indian cricket team for the upcoming white-ball tour of Zimbabwe. The team will be led by the promising Shubman Gill. This exciting development comes after their impressive performances in the last Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Riyan Parag receives maiden call-up
Parag, Abhishek, and Reddy have been rewarded for their outstanding performances in the IPL. Their inclusion reflects the selectors’ confidence in their abilities and potential. Notably, senior players currently competing in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the Americas—such as captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah—have been rested ahead of a demanding season.
The Zimbabwe tour comprises five T20 Internationals, beginning on July 6. It provides an excellent opportunity for these young talents to showcase their skills on the international stage.
Alongside Parag, Abhishek, and Reddy, other IPL performers joining the squad include Tushar Deshpande, Harshit Rana, Avesh Khan, and Rinku Singh, among others.
The 15-member squad also features Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who were on the bench during the T20 World Cup. Gill and Avesh, who were part of the travelling reserves for India’s T20 World Cup campaign, have been released after the group stage matches.
Abhishek Sharma, representing the Sunrisers Hyderabad, blazed away to 484 runs in IPL-17. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals’ Parag, the first player from Assam to be picked in the senior Indian team, amassed an impressive 573 runs.
