Rishabh Pant shortlisted among ICC Player of the Month nominees for January

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken an excellent initiative for the players. To celebrate the passion, hard work and dedication of players for the game, they have decided to announce ‘Player of the month’. And, to do so, they have announced the nominees today for the inaugural ICC Player of the Month Awards which will recognise the best performances of the players – both male and female across all forms of international cricket throughout the year as well.

Meanwhile, in the post-COVID-19 era, fans got to watch plenty of cricketing actions and recently they enjoyed a high profile clash between two best teams in world cricket – India and Australia. And now, with this inaugural player of the month awards, the competition is going to be tough for sure.

As far as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month January nominees are concerned, Rishabh Pant has played two Tests against Australia last month where he has scored a valiant 97 at Sydney to help India to ensure a draw before his unbeaten 89 in the fourth and final Test in Brisbane that led India to a historic series win against mighty Australia by 2-1.

On the other hand, England captain Joe Root has been in a prolific form where he has played two Tests against Sri Lanka and scored 228 and 186 runs as well and led his team to a 2-0 Test series win as well. Meanwhile, the third nominee in the category is Ireland player Paul Stirling who has played two ODIs against UAE and three ODIs against Afghanistan, where he smashed three centuries as well.

As far as the ICC Women’s Player of the Month January nominees are concerned, Pakistan pacer Diana Baig has played three ODIs and two T20Is against South Africa so far, where she has been in the wicket-takers’ list with nine wickets in the ODI series as well.

Meanwhile, South Africa speedster Shabnim Ismail also played three ODIs and two T20Is against Pakistan and claimed seven wickets against Pakistan, before taking a five-wicket haul in the second T20I against Pakistan. Her teammate all-rounder Marizanne Kapp who is the other nominee has also played two ODIs and two T20Is against the same opponent where she scored 115 runs at a strike rate of 110.57 and also picked up three wickets in the ODI series.
