Former Australia skipper and Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting feels that this sport, i.e cricket, can still bring a lot of joy to all the people and urged the cricketers and the fans to keep calm.

Meanwhile, tension penetrated through IPL on Monday when Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and some Australian players were seen pulling out from the association in the midst of the heightening COVID-19 emergency in India even as the BCCI demanded that the marvelous class will go on.

Ricky Ponting recently admitted that the situation outside the IPL bio-bubble is quite “grim” and made an requested the players to spread awareness it in order remain calm.

 “This IPL, probably more than any other, has become more about what’s happening outside than what’s happening here. We right now are probably the safest people in the country being in the bubbles that we are in,”  

“Continually I’m asking the boys at breakfast every day how’s everything going on the outside, how’s family, (is) family safe, (is) family happy. That’s a really important thing,” he added.

“It is really important, we are thinking about the extended family, not just us, but we’ve got to be talking about what’s happening outside because it is quite grim,” Ponting further added.

The Australian great, while admitting that IPL can be a welcome distraction in these tough times, said that COVID-19 has dominated the conversations within his team.

In addition to this, there is no denying about the seriousness of the matter at hand. The state of affair looks to be pretty gloomy at the moment as Ravichandran Ashwin has pulled out of the tournament, citing the COVID-19 “fight” his family is enduring.

Various cities of India, including the urban areas where the IPL matches have been planned, are in the hold of the seething pandemic, to which, the BCCI is certain that the competition is protected as it is being held in bio-secure set-ups.
