In a heart-wrenching scene at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) players Richa Ghosh and Shreyanka Patil were seen in tears following their team’s agonising loss to Delhi Capitals (DC).
Richa Ghosh’s valiant effort couldn’t steer RCB to win
The match, which was a nail-biting encounter, saw RCB put up a valiant fight. However, despite their best efforts, they fell short by just 1 run, handing DC a thrilling victory. The loss was particularly hard on Richa and Shreyanka, who had played pivotal roles in the match.
With 2 runs needed off the last ball, Jess Jonassen bowled one outside the off-stump, after which Richa carved the ball to backward point to run for a sharp single. However, Shefali Verma speared in an accurate throw at the bowler’s end and Jess Jonassen took the bails off at the non-striker’s end.
Richa was well short of her crease as RCB somehow crumbled at the finishing hurdle. The youngster scored 51 runs off 29 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes, but her efforts went in vain.
After RCB lost, Richa and Shreyanka were in tears as they sat on the ground in sheer disbelief. Jemimah Rodrigues and Jonassen consoled Richa while Alice Capsey went up to Shreyanka.

Smriti Mandhana, the RCB skipper, looked dejected in the dugout as well. Chasing 182, RCB finished at 180 for 7 in 20 overs. Shreyanka had a memorable time after she finished with figures of 4-0-26-4, but the end wasn’t quite pleasant for her.
Smriti Mandhana back Richa and Shreyanka
After the match, Mandhana lauded Richa and Shreyanka for trying their hearts out under pressure, although she admitted that the toss was a tough pill to swallow.
“A tough loss to take. The way we were batting, the way Richa was going, it was a brilliant innings. Shreyanka’s last over was brilliant as well. It was amazing to watch,” Mandhana said.
“The way Richa batted, and held her nerve, the game could have gone anywhere off the last ball,” she added.
Placed third in the table with 6 points and a net run rate of 0.027, RCB is in a precarious position as far as qualifying for the playoffs is concerned.
As the WPL 2024 continues, fans and supporters will be hoping to see a strong comeback from RCB, especially from Richa and Shreyanka. Their tears have shown their passion, and it is this passion that will be the driving force behind their pursuit of victory in the matches to come.
