Ever since the halt of the 14th edition of the IPL, various questions and potential solutions have been brought up regarding its resumption. While a definite solution is yet to be found, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly affirmed that the second half of the tournament will not be hosted by India.

The ongoing tournament was forced to be brought to a standstill due to the rapid number of cases emerging in the bio bubbles. The rising number of cases in the country facing its second wave makes it difficult for the organizers to set up the league once again.

England, UAE, and Sri Lanka have offered to host the cash-rich league with a small window before the T20 WC seeming the only possibility to wrap up the remaining 31 matches.

The BCCI president also ruled out a chance of IPL’s resumption after the WTC Final as India is currently scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for a limited-overs tour comprising of three ODIs and five T20Is.

“No (Ganguly on IPL after WTC final). India is supposed to go to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and five T20Is. There are lots of organizational hazards like 14-day quarantine. It can’t happen in India. This quarantine is tough to handle. Too early to say how we can find a slot to complete the IPL,” he told Sportstar.

Ganguly also discussed the prospect of calling off the IPL earlier while adding that the cases only emerged after the teams shifted their camp to Delhi and Ahmedabad.

“You can say that now in hindsight that the IPL should have been called off earlier. Mumbai and Chennai (legs) did not have cases. Only when the IPL reached Delhi and Ahmedabad did the cases rise. People will say a lot of things in any case,” Ganguly said

Team India is scheduled to leave for England in June, where they will play against New Zealand for the World Test Championship. They will also face England in a five-match test series before returning back to India for the T20 World Cup in India.
