Spanish giants Real Madrid have agreed to a contract extension with Adidas for the next eight seasons. A formal announcement is yet to take place, but numerous outlets have relayed the news. Both Marca and El Mundo have broken the same news in recent days.
The two of have been working together since 1998, and the extension will continue that till 2028. Rumours are that the deal is going to be worth €1.1 billion. “This agreement will help us to achieve our mission to be the best sports company in the world. It also underpins Adidas’ leadership in the football category,” Adidas chief executive Kasper Rorsted said in a statement.
Adidas have fought with Nike and Puma in recent years, as these three have control of the top clubs in general. Barcelona are in partnership with Nike, and that deal is reportedly worth € 85m per year. Real Madrid would earn a massive increase of € 52m per year if this deal falls through.
Real Madrid would attempt to build their squad in the summer after a disappointing season. They would need a serious influx of cash for recruitment, and this deal with Adidas would prove to be a great piece of business.
