Suresh Raina joins a host of Indian athletes to make a donation to strengthen the nation’s battle against the pandemic. Anticipating Coronavirus’ rise which has already claimed 19 lives in the country, the nation has moved to a lockdown for 21 days.

 

The flamboyant left-handed batsman pledged a donation of 52 Lakhs with 31 Lakh going towards the Prime Minister-CARES foundation and the rest 21 lakh dedicated to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh’s Disaster Relief Fund.

Raina revealed the news of the donation through his official Twitter handle while adding:

It’s time we all do our bit to help defeat #COVID19. I’m pledging ₹52 lakh for the fight against #Corona (₹31 lakh to the PM-CARES Fund & ₹21 lakh to the UP CM’s Disaster Relief Fund). Please do your bit too. Jai Hind!#StayHomeIndia @narendramodi  @myogiadityanath

Recently, the cricketer was seen in a live Instagram chat alongside former sports minister and Olympic Silver medalist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore where Raina stated the importance of the ongoing lockdown.

Along with Raina, PV Sindhu has pledged 5 Lakh Rupees to both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state relief fund.

Other cricketers to have made a contribution are Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly whereas other prominent sportspersons such as Hima Das and Bajrang Punia.
