Team India is currently gearing up for the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy against mighty Australia. The match that will begin on Thursday at the Sydney Cricket Ground, is likely to be a high-voltage one and all eyes will be on the stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane who led the Team India from the front and helped his side win the Boxing Day Test too.

Rahane took the responsibility in the absence of regular captain Virat Kohli and helped the team to come out of the humiliating defeat in Adelaide in the first test and turn the table in Melbourne. He smashed a stunning hundred that helped India level the series by 1-1 as well.

On the other hand, Ajinkya Rahane is on the edge of a record. If they manage to secure another win in Sydney in the next game, it will help him equal the record of former captain and wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni of winning their first four Test matches as captain. Notably, Dhoni has achieved this feat after taking over the reins from veteran Anil Kumble in 2008.

Meanwhile, Rahane has a hundred percent track record as the Test captain as under his captaincy, they won three matches – vs Australia in 2017, vs Afghanistan in 2018 and vs Australia on 2020 so far. He is also on the verge of scoring 1,000 Test runs on Australian soil too and to reach this beautiful feat, he needs 203 runs more with the current score of 797 runs. And, if he manages to score that in the third Test, he will become the 5th Indian to do so.

Meanwhile, in overseas games, Rahane has scored 2891 Test runs and he is just 109 runs short to reach the landmark of 3000. So far, 9 Indian players have scored 3,000+ Test runs outside India where the batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar belongs to the top of the list of most runs scored by an India batsman in overseas. He had scored 8705 runs in 106 matches.

So far, the current status of the series is 1-1 as both the team has won one game each so far with two in hands.
