RCB vs CSK: “Faf needs to have a soft corner for CSK,” Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of mega clash

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf Du Plessis

In the high-stakes world of Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket, rivalries run deep, and allegiances shift like the monsoon winds. Recently, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad added a dash of humour to the mix when he playfully suggested that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis should harbour a “soft corner” for his former team, CSK.

Faf du Plessis, the seasoned South African batter, was once an integral part of the CSK family. His elegant strokes and unwavering commitment made him a fan favourite. But fate had other plans. During the IPL 2022 mega auction, RCB swooped in and secured du Plessis for a whopping Rs 7 crore. Suddenly, the man who bled yellow was now donning RCB’s red and black.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s cheeky appeal to Faf du Plessis

Ahead of the crucial knockout clash between RCB and CSK, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who shares a close bond with du Plessis, decided to tease his former opening partner. In an interview with Star Sports, Ruturaj cheekily remarked that du Plessis should keep a soft spot in his heart for CSK. After all, old loyalties die hard, especially when you’ve battled together on the pitch.

“Even that day (reverse fixture), before the toss he was saying, “You know, my elbow, It’s not really well, and I am still struggling,”, and I went to him and said, “promise me you won’t play that scoop-shot. I will have that fielder inside and have some other field for you,” I was happy with him scoring all around, but just not that scoop. Especially against us. You have to have that soft corner against CSK. But I was still encouraging not to score those runs in that match. Especially with fresh auctions coming next year, there could be the chance to come back again,” Ruturaj said.

Now, as RCB faces CSK in a virtual knockout, du Plessis finds himself in a unique position. Can he lead RCB to victory against his former team—the defending champions? The stakes are high, and the banter continues. Ruturaj hinted that fresh auctions next year might open the door for du Plessis’ return to the yellow brigade. Could this be a chance for redemption?

So, as the Chinnaswamy Stadium prepares for the showdown, we’ll keep an eye on du Plessis. Will he heed Ruturaj’s advice and spare CSK from the scoop shot? Or will he unleash his full arsenal against his former comrades? Either way, IPL fans are in for a treat—a delightful blend of cricket.
