Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will reveal their new captain and unveil their new jersey at an event on March 12. The franchise will name Virat Kohli’s successor following the squad assembly at the two-day mega auction last month.
Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik, and Faf du Plessis are touted as favorites to be the next captain of the team. According to reports, the veteran South African is expected to lead the side in the upcoming season of the IPL.
du Plessis was roped in by the three-time finalists for a price tag of INR 7 crore after the player was announced in the marquee list. He will be available for the entirety of the tournament since he is not a part of International cricket anymore.
Other options like Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik come with their set of demerits. The Australian is unlikely to be a captaincy candidate as he will be unavailable for the initial leg of games due to the national team’s tour of Pakistan.
Dinesh Karthik, despite his experience, did not endure the best of times as captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders. He left the role midway through the 2020 season and handed the reins over to Eoin Morgan.
RCB announced through their social media outlets that they will be holding an event at the Museum Cross Road in Church Street. The management are slated to hold a press conference at 4 PM to make the announcements.
