Ravindra Jadeja ruled out of T20I series, Shardul Thakur named as replacement

Having started with a convincing win in the three-match Twenty20 International series against Australia, India got a big blow. Their key all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the rest of the two T20 Internationals against Australia after he suffered a concussion during the first game, the BCCI confirmed the news. Meanwhile, right-arm pace bowler Shardul Thakur has been named as the replacement.

“He (Jadeja) will not take any further part in the ongoing T20I series. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added Shardul Thakur to India’s T20I squad,” the BCCI said in a statement.

The BCCI further shared that Ravindra Jadeja remains under observation and further scans will be done if required but it will be based on the assessment on Saturday morning.

“Ravindra Jadeja sustained a concussion after being hit on the left side of his forehead in the final over of the first innings of the first T20I against Australia in Canberra on 4th December 2020,” the BCCI said. “The diagnosis was confirmed based on a clinical assessment in the dressing room during the innings break by the BCCI Medical Team,” it again added.

Notably, Jadeja was hit on the head by a bouncer from Mitchell Starc in the final over of the Indian innings. However, not only this but before that, he was seen limping when he was running between the wickets also. He played a crucial knock for India and remained unbeaten at 44 off 23 balls, which helped India put up a decent total of 161 for 7 on the board and helped his team to win the match by 11 runs as well.

On the other hand, Yuzvendra Chahal, who came in the second innings as a concussion replacement for Ravindra Jadeja, played an important role with the ball in his 4-overs spell and claimed 3 for 35 in India’s win as well.

“Ravindra Jadeja was hit on the helmet in the final over of the first innings of the first T20I. Yuzvendra Chahal will take the field in the 2nd innings as a concussion substitute. Jadeja is currently being assessed by the BCCI Medical Team,” the BCCI said in a statement in between the game.
