Indian players have been playing constantly since last November when the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) took place in the UAE. Following that, they played against Australia and currently taking n England. While both are full-fledged series, they will soon play in the 14th edition of IPL at its original window. However, Head Coach Ravi Shastri has asked for a two-week break for the players post IPL 2021.
Since the payers have to follow strict rules and guidelines owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, Shastri said that bio-bubble restrictions and quarantine period can be mentally tough for the players, and a break will help them to start afresh as they have a few upcoming series. While they will play against Sri Lanka at home, a final of the World Test Championship is awaiting too, if they manage to win against England.
Apart from that, there are a few T20I series scheduled as well prior to the mega event – the T20 World Cup in October and November.
“I do believe you need a break from international cricket at some point. After the England series, yes they go into the IPL. Again after the IPL, a couple of weeks off is a must. Because in these quarantines, in these bubbles, it is mentally draining. You are a human, at the end of it all,” Ravi Shastri said to Star Sports.
“As far as this team goes, this team takes pride in its performance. we will take it one step at a time. Every series is important. Every format is important. And we have got the volume of players, we have the bench strength to accommodate across all formats. So there will be the hunger to perform,” he further added.
As far as the game is concerned, Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah on Friday achieved a rare feat as he made his Test debut at home, after playing 17 overseas Tests in South Africa, England, West Indies, New Zealand, and Australia. However, with this, he surpassed former pacer Javagal Srinath.
