The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has been a spectacle of power-hitting, with teams consistently surpassing the 200-run mark. This run-fest has raised concerns about the balance between bat and ball. Amidst this, Ravi Shastri, the former India coach, has sent out a firm message to the bowlers.
The ongoing campaign has seen the 200-mark breached 24 times this season in the first 42 matches and 260-plus scores have been reached 7 times. The match between KKR and PBKS on April 26 saw the Punjab side chase down a target of 262 to win the match.
Ravi Shastri’s message to bowlers in IPL 2024
Shastri has urged the bowlers to focus on their strengths rather than whinging and mourning about the high-scoring games. He believes that the ongoing IPL season presents a great opportunity for bowlers to focus on time-tested strategies and the execution of things that have stood the test of time.
According to Shastri, bowlers should refrain from adding unnecessary elements to their limited armoury that they can’t execute. Instead, they should stick to their strengths and focus. He sees this as a great opportunity for bowlers to stand out in the league.
Great opportunity watching this @IPL for bowlers to focus on the time tested and execution of things that have lasted the Test of time. Rather than in pursuit to add baggage to your limited armoury that you can't execute. Get stuck in to your strengths and focus. Great…

Shastri’s message comes in the wake of record-breaking performances in IPL 2024. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vs Punjab Kings (PBKS) game saw Punjab chase down a massive target of 262 runs. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) also set the record for the highest total in IPL history, scoring a mammoth 288/3 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
