According to reports, India’s head coach Ravi Shastri is unlikely to continue as Team India’s head coach after T20 World Cup 2021. Reportedly, he is unwilling to renew his contract.

Shastri was appointed as the Head coach after the former coach Anil Kumble resigned from his position post Champions Trophy 2017. Then, Shastri’s contract was renewed after World Cup 2019. However, it is being reported that Shastri has directly communicated his decision of not continuing to the BCCI.

Sources also suggest that bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar’s contract will not be renewed either. However, batting coach Vikram Rathour is likely to continue.

According to News 18, BCCI has already started discussions on appointing a new head coach for the team after the T20 World Cup. The board will invite applications for the post of head coach of the Indian team. Selection and interview will be done based on application.

Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid in contention to replace Ravi Shastri

Speculations are emerging that Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid are in line to replace Ravi Shastri as head coach. Sehwag doesn’t have any coaching experience. However, he was the mentor of Kings XI Punjab back in the day.

On the other hand, Rahul Dravid has a plethora of experience. He was the head coach of India A, India U19 and he is also the director of cricket at NCA. Recently, Dravid was appointed as the head coach of the Indian team for the white ball series against Sri Lanka. However, reports were emerging that Dravid is not looking for a head coach role and he wants to work with players at a junior level.

“According to a section of the board, if necessary, Team India can play against the New Zealand series by extending the contract of Shastri by another month.”

“New head coaches and support staff will be in charge of Team India’s tour of South Africa which begins on December 16 after the T20 World Cup. However, the new coach will not be seen in the two-Test series at home against New Zealand after the T20 World Cup,” the News18 report states.
