In an exhilarating display of power-hitting, Ravi Bopara of England smashed Robin Uthappa for six consecutive sixes in an over during the Hong Kong Sixes tournament on November 2, 2024. This remarkable feat took place in the fourth over of England’s innings, with Bopara hitting five consecutive sixes before Uthappa bowled a wide on the last ball to delay the onslaught. Undeterred, Bopara smashed another six off the final delivery, totalling six sixes in the over and scoring 37 runs from Uthappa’s over.
Ravi Bopara’s onslaught
Bopara’s incredible over set the tone for England’s innings, as he went on to score a half-century off just 14 balls, including eight sixes. He was well supported by Samit Patel, who also played a sensational knock of 51 off 18 balls. England posted a formidable score of 120/1 in six overs.
In response, India got off to a good start with Bharat Chipli (21 off 7) and Shreevats Goswami (27 off 10) playing quick-fire knocks. However, Uthappa failed to make a solid contribution and was dismissed for a golden duck. Kedar Jadhav tried his best to take his team over the line with his knock of 48 off 15, but India could only manage to reach 105/3 in their six overs, losing the match by 15 runs.
Bopara’s achievement of hitting six sixes in an over made him the first player in the 2024 Hong Kong Cricket Sixes to accomplish this feat. His aggressive batting and all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
