When Rahul Dravid revealed which batsmen he would pick to ‘bat for his life’

The icons of the last generation of Indian cricket team had their uniqueness that has made them memorable in the country’s cricketing fandom, even years after their retirement, and Rahul Dravid is no different. The former captain of the squad is remembered for his sublime batting, and even eight years after his retirement, the supporters can’t let go of ‘The Wall’s performances donning the Indian jersey. However, even Dravid has his favourite run machine, whom he would choose to ‘bat for his life’, and its none other than his former teammate the iconic Sachin Tendulkar!

In an interview with ESPNcricinfo dating back to 2018, Rahul Dravid had revealed his batsman of choice. The interview is now gathering the attention of the netizens again on social media, as the former cricket himself has been trending all over Twitter today under the hashtag ‘#RahulDravid’.

ESPNcricinfo posted the video of the interview on their official YouTube account on 26th July, 2018, has been going around via tweets among Dravid’s fan base on the internet.

Dravid was asked 25 questions by the interviewer, from his role models in life, his favourite singer, or even the funniest sledge he faced on the pitch.

However, when asked about the ‘One batsman you would choose to bat for your life?’, the 47 year old had his answer prompt.

“I think the best guy I played with was Sachin,” Dravid replied.

In terms of quality and class and what he got. I would say I will have to choose Sachin if he is at his best,” the former Men in Blue stalwart added.

Sachin and Dravid’s partnerships during their primes are still memorable for the Indian fans even to this date. In Test cricket, the duo still hold the world record for most hundred partnerships (20), and also the highest runs scored together (6920) in the red ball format.

In his 16 long years with India, the occasional wicket keeper batsman enjoyed a stellar international career. Dravid earned 164 Test and 344 ODI caps for the team, scoring over 13,000 and 10,00 runs in both formats respectively.

The Karnataka cricket team star also played in six Indian Premier League seasons, three with Royal Challengers Bangalore and the rest with Rajasthan Royals. He is the current Director of Cricket Operations at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
